Their whole schtick was - before this BYOW thing - having a $5 mark-up on their wine list. They act like they're doing everyone a favour, but they are in fact making an extra $5 off of every bottle that people bring into their establishment AND they're not having to buy and/or store the wine! Why is this noteworthy compared to a restaurant that may have a $30+ markup and a $25 corkage. I still think Mammina's is a good deal - drink their wine and pay just $5. Which is basically what we've been talking about with the whole concept of BYOW. You've got to make your money somewhere. I've read about the owners of the place now talking about what a good thing they're doing, only charging a $10 corking fee...whatever.
