Is there somewhere in Toronto where you can get authentic swiss fondue - fish/meat, not necessarily cheese? By preference, not a Japanese restaurant (shabu-shabu), but something in the 'yodelayheehoo' variety (how do you like my yoddling?)

There is a great swiss style fondue restaurant in Quebec City but that's a bit of a drive.
;)

toronto star had a recent article

"I wander into the Academy of Culinary Arts kitchen shop on Bayview and ask about the mysterious black raclette grill with the flat dishes tucked underneath.

Owner Laurie Oehy says raclette is the hottest new home entertaining trend. Beloved for centuries by Swiss shepherds, who placed a half wheel of cheese near an open fire and scraped the melted layer over boiled potatoes (the French verb "racler" means to scrape), this humble ritual has morphed into an electric cooktop that lets you melt cheese and grill meat, fish and veg at the same time, right at the table."

I have never been there so I cannot comment on the food.

Based on the website menu, you can get cheese fondue at Tom Jones Steakhouse after 10pm. Not sure why it's only offered after 10pm.

I'm not sure if it's still there or not, but there is/was a place called Raclette, around Yonge and Eg or St.Clair. It had a good reputation at one time. I don't think I've ever eaten there though.

Likewise, I'm not sure if it's still there (I moved out of town a few years ago), but I know the place Chantal means.

The restaurant called Raclette at Yonge & St Clair changed its name to Delisle Restaurant and Wine Bar (in the mid-90s, I think). It became less yodel-ay and more bistro-ish, but continued to serve raclette and fondues.

The food was always good; it was my favourite neighbourhood restaurant for many years.

If it's still there, you can find it in Delisle Court on the west side of Yonge north of St Clair, between Delisle and Heath Streets.
