i'm now living in the western burlington area and while i've tried out the usual haunts (la costa, la cucina, il fornello, etc) i was wondering of any good recommendations in the are? especially ones for the health conscious
Hi Becca I tend to look for restaurants that have something a little different, not the usual beef/chicken/lamb dishes. My favourite in Burlington is the Rude Native, downtown Burlington. It has an eclectic menu, some dishes are Asian/Caribbean based. It is always good in my experience, and doesnt break the bank.
If you want to try something new, a Spanish/Columbian restaurant, Pacos, has just opened in north Burlington. It is in the strip mall on the north-east corner of Brant and Upper Middle. I have eaten there twice and intend to go back. Nothing spectacular so far, however they have what I look for in a restaurant: small, family owned, small menu with daily specials.
For Thai, I go to Thai Satay in Oakville. For Vietnamese, I head into Hamilton to the one with the grocery store attached on Cannon, west of James (sorry, but I dont know the name).
Best Italian in the area is Trattoria Timone on Lakeshore in Oakville. Also good is Agabi, on Speers Rd, for Middle Eastern. Try Bahn Thai in Burlington (Fairview, I think) for decent Thai and much less expensive that Thai Satay. Vietnamese in Hamilton is the best. What else... sushi place on Trafalgar in Oakville is supposed to be good but I haven't been.
