Provence and Le Select
Just returned from a weekend in your fair city and wanted to report on the two places we went for dinner.
Le Select was great, as usual. It's just a nice, constant kinda place to eat. Had the pate, pissaladiere (onion tart) and steak bavette and frites. A nice wine from Languedoc.
The next evening we ate at Provence (I had read about it on this board). It's a charming little place and the service was excellent. We started with the fish soup with rouille (excellent)and a cold watercress soup that was cream-based (very good). The risotto with shitake mushrooms and truffle oil was to die for. The lamb was not that fab. It was kind of tough and there was too much persillade for my taste. The French beans were kinda tasteless and the frites were hard to eat. They were cut in a strange configuration that made them impossible to put elegantly into your mouth, if that makes any sense.
However, I'd go back, without a doubt. I just wouldn't order the lamb!
