Mount Pleasant chow for visitor

  • e

Hi. I'm a NYC hound who'll be staying in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood for a couple of days and would very much appreciate recommendations for chow in the neighborhood, especially:

--breakfast places (not particularly expensive, if possible)

--Asian restaurants (ditto)

--health food or grocery stores/supermarkets

Thanks in advance for all tips!

  1. Assuming that you are staying close to Eglington, much of what you are looking for can be found by walking west, to Yonge St. Decent cheap breakfasts can be found on the east side of Yonge St., north of Eglington at What-a-Bagel and slightly further north at Sunset Grill (which seems to have received some not so great reviews on this board, but the food is decent and the price is right - service is slow when it's busy, but it would probably be fine earlier in the day). Walking along Eglington towards Yonge, you will find Rex Saigon for thai/chinese food at reasonable prices. There is also Cha Liu Dim Sum Shop for all day dim sum on Yonge St. (west side), again, north of Eglington. At the corner of Yonge and Eglington you will find a Dominion Supermarket (in the Yonge/Eglington Centre). Also, there is a store called Noah's Natural Foods on the east side of Yonge, north of Eglington that sells health foods.

    1. You may want to try:

Lolo on Mt. Pleasant near Manor(I think). Great bistro food, with a lovely atmosphere. I think they are still doing a 3 course prix-fixe for $22.

Cafe Plieade - Mt. Pleasant East side, north of Davisville - great for lunch with excellent soups.

Square - 692 Mt. Pleasant - I have not been yet, but there are some reviews lower down the page. Sounds yummy. More expensive than the other 2 options

      1. If you are looking for well priced pub fare, the pub Aristotle and McGregor's on 525 Mt. Pleasant is always a pleasant experience. I have a friend that must have one of their burgers every couple of weeks. Nothing too fancy but it has good brew and a well cooked meal. It is located just North of Davisville, and south of Eglington. I hope this helps!

Asian Resto - Rex Saigon at Yonge and Eglinton (on north side of eglinton, just east of Yonge). good, inexpensive thai/vietnamese chow...perfect for a quick lunch.

breakfast - Sweet Gallery on Mt. Pleasant @ Soudan (just south of Eglinton) offers a great weekend brunch, with a warm smile. not sure if they have breakfast throughout the week, but worth checking out if they do.

          hope this helps :)

          1. Thanks for all the tips; VERY helpful!
