Lunch with granddaughter in Theatre District

Granny Jun 9, 2004 12:27 PM

I am taking my 10-year old granddaughter and daughter-in-law to "Hairspray" on Sunday afternoon. I know there are many restaurants in the neighbourhood, but what do you suggest to accommodate a 10-year old and a 70-year old? I was thinking Il Fornello.

There are many places to eat in the area.
Barootes may offer something for everyone : http://www.barootes.com

Elephant & Castle is a few doors away at King and Simcoe and Milestone's is up a couple of blocks at Queen and John.

I strongly recommend The Red Tomato (doesn't open until about 4:00 or 4:30) - especially on Sunday (south side of King a couple of blocks west). The menu is mostly appetizer sized portions so you can try different things - and on Sundays they offer most items at about 20% off (it's a separate one sheet menu which they don't 'push' - but it is normally on the table with the regular menu; read carefully to ensure you have the 'special' one). Some interesting presentations too e.g. meat served with a hot stone - on which you cook yourself and a fabulous lobster soup (trust me on that one). My daughter felt really grown-up there as a sophisticated 10 yr-old.
