Cajun in Portland

As part of my extended West coast trip, I had the
opportunity to visit Delta, a hipster cajun place in SE
Portland. I say hipster because it has that retro-hip
atmosphere down to a "T." The chairs are all shiny
vinyl and the tables are formica. Beads hang from the
walls, and all the waiters have tattoos and piercings.
It's so very very Portland.
But the food is actually pretty darn good. I had a
catfish po-boy. The bread was a little disappointing -
dry and sort of bland, but the catfish was spicy
without being over-chilied. The mashed potatoes were
great, they tasted more like butter than potatoes,
which is just the way I like 'em. I hear the jambalaya
is good, too.
It's not the best imitation of New Orleans ever, but
it's passable. The location is great, though. It
occupies the corner of a block of SE Woodstock, around
49th Ave. or so, that is also home to 17 Nautical
Miles, an all ages club for bands, and a bar called the
Lutz tavern, which serves up cans of Pabst for a buck
apiece. I'm sure all the beer connoisseurs on these
boards fail to see this as a selling point, but I love
a good cold can of watery beer, especially after eating
some good old southern grub.
