Fried Chicken

  • c

Does anyone know of a magical spot for great fried chicken in Toronto? There has gotta be some gems in this extremely underrated area of our culinary landscape (soul food).

KFC does not count!

  1. Well, there is Popeye's. It is a U.S. chain but the chicken is really good. There has been recent post in the General Board, even the Head Chowhound is a fan. The locations in Toronto that I know of are Yonge and Dundas, Yonge and Steeles, Don Mills and Sheppard. I find that the Yonge and Steeles location is better.

      In Scarborough,

Morningside and Military Trail/401 (poor quality)
      Midland and Lawrence (good)

        There's also a Popeye's on overlea blvd.
near to don mills.rd. This site is Hallal which I think many of them are now, and very
clean. Their biscuits are great too.

I believe that there is also a Popeye's at the northwest corner of Jane and Wilson, but I have not been there in a while.

There's also a Popeye's on the SE corner of College and Spadina.

The place is Chick-n-Joy, at 1483 Queen East... right in my 'hood. Very good chicken (but not the great real southern stuff), B+/A- fries (most of the time), but skip the gravy.

                2. It's a chain, but there's not many of them..... Mary Brown's is good! Especially their gravy.

It's at 1286 Kingston Rd in Pickering.

All these places mentioned are competitors to K.F.C.
If your willing to take a drive to Oshawa theres a great chicken place called Mr.Chicken on King St.East
beside the T.D bank(look for the big sign)
                    Best i`ve tasted in Ontario.
                    Good eating!
P.S there`s also a chain of chicken places in the T.O.
area with a few stores called Fritou which is a Quebec
                    franchise i think.
They serve spiced marinated fried chicken.

For something a bit different you should try Argkur(sp?) Fried Chicken on Bloor West at Crawford, one block west from Christie Station.

They serve fried chicken, korean style. Get the spicy fried chicken, fried chicken coated in an amazing sweet, slightly spicy, sticky sauce.

Ajuker Fried Chicken or AFC is a Korean take on Fried Chicken. The spicy fried chicken is indeed quite good.

                        Ajuker Fried Chicken
                        796 Bloor W.
