Red Stag used to do a superb one. It's off the menu.

Ely's East has had it and it was good...but it's a special.

I thought Jax had it, but looking at their menu, that looks like a big negative.

Southern Vegetarian Indian?

now I am not a local, but a search says, these places have what you are looking for:
- Malabari Kitchen: http://malabarikitchen.com/
- Annapurna Bhavan: 4920 Central Ave NE

Also, a tiny little thing to clarify:

Gujarat is not part of South India. It's Central or Western Indian at best. This is from both, an entho-cultural point of view as well as geographical. It is also 99% vegetarian, which is a lot more than South India, which has a substantial amount of seafood and meat (even beef) in the diet.

http://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/india/india-political-map.htm

South India is (loosely) defined by the 4 southern states. Their cuisines have a vast array of non-vegetarian dishes (especially Andhra cuisine) and lentils and rice are the foundations.
Gujarati food is a lot blander/simpler. You won't find any Sambar or Idli or Dosa here. What you will find is Dhokla, Dal, Baati & Churma. The cuisine is based on grains, root veggies and grains.

Fiancee and I went the last two years. We'll be out of town this year, so can't attend. It's an fantastic event. The food is, overall, excellent. While there were a handfull of misses, the hits more than made up for the few misses.

Yes, it's expensive. On the other hand, the quality of the food is excellent, the charity is great, and you'll likely never have most of the TC's top chefs all in the same room, all willing to talk with you.

I've only had HK once, at your recommendation (one or both of you) and I didn't really care for it. The rice was dry and hard, making the whole dish almost inedible. I know the rice wasn't going to be super moist, but it was physically difficult to eat the stuff because of how dry it was.

I might give them another chance...we'll see.

Know this is a little late however Boston Garden (kiddy corner from Big 10) right on Mainstreet will fill your bill very nicely. They have gotten many awards and their fish sandwhich is to die for. Spagehetti just right for Minnesotan's however I like mine a little spiceier. Look in the local coupon ads and get a special although prices are on the low side. Lots of locals inhabit this fine establishment. Been in the same locale for many years now. Pizza Luce, be prepared to spend big $$$ and Hoagies just doesn't do it anymore. Go on a Satrurday and attend the Farmers Market (opens June 18, 2013 I believe this year).

On the other end of the spectrum, I would advise you to avoid this place at all cost. We went there about a year ago (I think based on Dara's rec) and were horribly disappointed. I could say the service was bad, but it was more non-existent. We could barely get the server to take our order, and ended up being there an hour and a half/two hours with only ordering entrees. The food did nothing to redeem it. Even though we ordered spicy, it was so bland as to have an unpleasant texture. In our book, there is nothing redeeming about this place, and we've since talked to others who had a similar experience.

Who has best scones in Twins Cities

Thanks for posting this because when I first read this yesterday I thought maybe I was missing something or misread the word scone.

I was always taught that traditional English scones were very close to the American biscuit (just a tiny bit sweeter with a small amount of sugar in the dough) - intended to be lighter and doused with jam and clotted cream. The American monstrosities I see everywhere are far too sweet and dense and not conducive to jam or cream. I'm not saying they are bad necessarily, they're just not a proper scone.

So this begs the question to the OP - just where did you find this proper scone?

Looking for a Restaurant for Large Party of 50 budget of 20-30$

If your group is okay with quote-unquote "non-mainstream" food, you probably would have mentioned it, but just in case...

Last summer, I arranged a catered birthday party with WONDERFUL food from Holy Land deli in NE Minneapolis that was under $20/person - and that's the total price, not the per-entree price (I suspect some of the other recs are assuming entree not total). Holy Land has a large room that could easily accommodate your group for that price, but it would be a buffet - not table service - in a very bare-bones environment. But their Egyptian/Middle-Eastern food is great. If that appeals, check 'em out!
