Unfortunately this bug has been around for a long time and doesn't seem to ever make it into the priority queue. It's pretty annoying. My best guess is that not enough posters use that feature to make it worth their while. I've said in the past that I think this bug should be prioritized because it affects primarily the site's longest and most active contributors but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Restaurant missing Opentable link

I've entered a number of records for restaurants whose web sites happen to link to OpenTable. As a convenience to Chow users, I've gone ahead and added the OpenTable link to the records, as you have.

But I don't see it as our job to monetize the site. When site employees run across records with OpenTable links that don't include the Chow referral info, they can add it themselves.

Things showing up in the sticky topics section is a bug, but not a serious one -- they're not actually sticky, they just appear in that section for a couple of hours. I'm not sure about the random chronological order issue, though. The first topic is actually sticky, while things underneath it appear to be in the proper order, at least right now.

It's a small bug for users who use some browsers and aren't using the same time settings as the servers. It has no real effect on the functioning of the site. Engineering's looked at it a couple of times, but fixing it proved ... complicated ... and since it wasn't actually changing anything function-wise, they've never gone through with a fix.

To the technical staff:

Just to second squid kun ...

Would you people please turn off the google maps feature? It is absolutely horrible that CH can't seem to figure out the difference between Manhattan and Brooklyn in pretty much every post. (See here for an example of two restaurants in Manhattan and both being shown in Brooklyn: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/664646 ).

The poor out-of-towners looking at these maps will be utterly confused. If you can't get the information right, you should at least turn off the map feature.

I'm guessing there are some tags in a TextEdit document that the server isn't allowing, but posting it into a plain-text-only email strips those out and makes the file digestible. Anyway, the review is now on the LA Board, under "My Saint Amour review".

Arrrrg !!! ... !!! My review is no longer linked to the restaurant record

I'm sorry if this is brought up somewhere else, but while response time is better than yesterday it is till not too good for me and it will take me hours to read everything on site talk and techinical help

Last night I did a reprt for Commis and gave it five stars.
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/663205

BTW, I'm leaving all the spelling errors in here. When I type it takes a while for the actual letters to show up now and some are getting dropped. So that's why the line above says rprt not report.

I sweated over that report. It seems if you edit a restaurant the name of the restaurant is left blank in the review section. The stars are there. The check box is there. But when you save and don't notice the lack of a restaurant name, it gets dropped from the restaurant database.

So each and everytime I saved I made sure that restaurant name was in the restaurant box.

Thins morning I signed on and there were some comments. Not only was Commis linked another restaurant showed up called "My Favorite Cafe" Ok, fine ... someone must have typed that phrase and there apparantly is a SF cafe called that. I can't find the words "my favorite cafe: either in my report or any of the replies ... but whatever. It was hours after I could edit my review.

As of this morning, there was a link in the report to Commis and looking at the restaurant record my report was there with a five stars. All is well with the world.

BUT NO

I come back tonight. I read a topic on Techincal Help and I'm going to use the example of "My Favorite Cafe" which is showing up all over the SF board, as an example of links gone wrong.

I compen up my report. ALL links are gone including Commis. I look at the Restaurant record. NO five star reviews.

So I write this up. I'm going to link to the restaurant record.

Now the stars appear though the link is still missing in my report. I get out of the restaurant record again. The link to my review is gone. Open, close, open close ...etc. Stars show up sometimes, other times not. The only constant is the actual report no longer has the link to Commis displayed

Is it possible that when someone replies to a report and removes the link to the restaurant name in their reply, in this case Commis, that the link to that restaurant record is removed from the original post and all replies?

The best thing to do when you run into problem ads is to click on the grey word 'advertisement' that appears above or to the right of the ad, and report the ad as broken via that form. That'll go directly to the technical team who deals with ads, and send them all the necessary information about the ad and your browser version so they can look into the problem.

As I recall "ProPhoto RGB" is a problem.
If your camera has other nomenclature (and choices), then I suggest going online for clarification. Photoshop calls one IIC (color), profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1. I can save a jpg with that profile or NOT. Perhaps some cameras have similar options for saving. I think you need the most basic jpg when uploading to Chowhound.

Restaurant search: Want Richmond, CA not Richmond, BC, CA or Richmond, VA

Ok, but shouldn't that be fixed? Shouldn't the search be on city then state/province/whatever then country? Rather than City then country then state/etc

I don't know how many names the US and Canada share, but I know there is an Ontario, CA near me. Of course searching on that pulls up places in Ontario, Canada

While it is unlikely other than Canada, other states that share 2 letter abbreviations with countries share cities, or cities that would be in the restaurant databas ... such as SD - South Dakota or Sudan ... there might be a few ...aren't there a lot of Germans in Delaware which shares DE with Germany. There must be one or two city names both countries share

And who knows what other country provinces cross over with another country abbreviation.

Anyway, shouldn't this have a ticket no matter how low priority.

I'm having problems going to page 2, 3, 4, etc. When I try to go to the next page, it keeps showing me page 1.
Is this my computer or is there a problem on Chowhound?

I'm having a similar problem, but it's gotten worse. Entry from the 'recents' on the home page is the only way I can get past the flickering 'chowhound' link and into the forums.
Once it, it's ok, but something remains a broken link.

Can't Post - Greeted With Errors

I've been trying to post in the "Cookware" forum, but after trying 3 times, I'm beginning to think it's not just me.

I posted 3 duplicate posts, and each time when I hit post I was greeted with an error message from Chowhound:
"There's been a slight problem...
Sorry, something's not working with this page. The CHOW team has been notified and will check it out. If there's something else we can provide in the meantime, please try searching:"

My 3 posts show up on the index of the Cookware forum, but clicking on any of them gives the same message. The links are:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/660856
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/660854
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/660853

Of course, since I can't access to posts to even read them, I can't delete them either.

I was trying to upload photos with my post, but when I go to Mychow/Photos, they seem to have all been successfully uploaded.

Any suggestions what might be happening?

Search for restaurant features not working

Last night I updated restaurant records flagging restaurant that serve lunch in Noe Valley.

About a half dozen records were updated. This restaurant displays that the restaurant serves lunch
http://www.chow.com/restaurants/8120/fattoush-restaurant

However when I check lunch and Noe Valley the search shows up empty.

I thought at first it was a problem of a combination of checked options, so then I searched all restaurants serving lunch in San Francisco., None of the Noe Valley (which is a neighborhood in San Francisco) show up.
http://search.chow.com/search?query=&location=San+Francisco%2C+CA&type=Restaurant&board_ids=&advanced=1&sort_mode=best_match&feature=SERVES_LUNCH

I would normally just flag it using the "Report" feature, but I can't even access the actual posts.

Please keep the earliest post titled "Golden Ocean,...etc.". The rest were attempts at reposting when Chowhound complained of an Error.

Thanks!
