Restaurant options for dinner between Charlottesville & Wintergreen VA

Your dining options are going to be limited in Wintergreen but doesn't Wintergreen itself have a restautant?

There are few places of any type in between Charlottesville and Wintergreen, much less "nice" places, and Cville will be pretty well mobbed.

You could also try Basic Necessities in Nellysford ,right near Wintergreen. It is a wine/cheese and bread shop, but also have a small cafe. For a party your size I would definitely call ahead.

Looking for The Really Best BBQ

How can quality just drop? You either use a pit cooker or not, for the most part, right?

I called Q BBQ in midlo, the person on the phone said they smoke it for ~16 hours. I asked her what exactly she cooked it in, I think she started to sort of stumble but definitely knew to say nice things about how long they cook it. I wasn't trying to be mean, I asked her if it was pit and she said yea, and about how they use wood. That sounds good, I suppose I'll try it later.

Even a better question. If this is a given on every bill, does that mean there is no longer a gratuity involved? If there is no gratuity to be earned, could that not void the employer's minimum wage exemption?

It doesn't matter, I've been in there the last time until it is sold and this practice is discontinued.

Too late for your trip, but we just got back from the New River Birding Festival, and had 3 amazing meals courtesy of the Cathedral Cafe in Fayetteville. Two were a catered breakfast and lunch at the festival, they were so good that two friends and I went there for breakfast the day we left the area after the festival, and saw at least 6 other festival attendees there.

I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, and the best coffee I'd had all week. I don't remember what my two friends ate, but we all wanted to lick our plates.

It's on the main drag of Fayetteville in a former church building - hard to miss!

Took a New York City guy to Thai diner and he loved it. Kept stuffing in the food and muttering "Excellent!, Excellent!"

I usually get the pumpkin red curry with shrimp and just keep wanting more.

Watch out, Thai Hot is serious stuff. Get very mild and ask for extra prik nam pla on the side if you are in doubt.

There is a branch of this place in Carytown, but we like the original near Parham Road much better.

Buzz & Ned's on the Boulevard
Pricier than the Pig, but excellent.
Won a Bobby Flay Throwdown
If you don't want racks of baby backs, the sandwiches are like mountains and GREAT

Also on the Boulevard, a little north of Buzz & Ned's, close to The (baseball) Diamond is Bill's BBQ with good simple BBQ sandwiches since about the 30's and not much changed. Order sliced BBQ, crispy fires (double cooked) and homemade banana pie (YES!!!) and a large limeade. About $10 total and great food.

Ocean City, MD Anything worthwhile in the southern part of town?

What do you know, that's where we went! It was pretty good. The drinks were out of this world, best we had all weekend. We shared the lobster and shrimp dip, which was rich and gooey just like we expected. My friend got the crab cakes, which she said were very good, but she was terribly disappointed at the boring and under seasoned squash on the side. The wild rice was just plain overcooked, and also under seasoned. (I tasted it myself, so I totally agreed with her) I got the pork belly and my only minor complaint would be that the grits were very course, and not creamy at all, but their flavor was very good. Otherwise, the pork belly was melt in my mouth perfect, and the braised arugula was different and flavorful. I got bread pudding for dessert with mixed berries. It was slightly dry to me, except for the very center. The atmosphere was loud and casual but, to be honest, we didn't feel relaxed. We felt like we had to eat and get out to make room for the next seating.

We go for our girls' weekend every year, and we decided that Shark wasn't bad, but we'll go back to Liquid Assets next year. Hopefully we'll stay in a condo on the North side as well. I'm not really a B&B person, although it fit our needs and our budget and was very nice.

Good, cheap eats around Richmond?

Got home yesterday and wanted to say that we loved The Crazy Greek. We weren't prepared for the huge menu, however, and it took us forever to finally decide on two Italian dishes. I couldn't believe it, but my husband lost the Battle of Spaghetti Hill as I'm calling it. He ordered some kind of special spaghetti that had meatballs, pepperoni, and sausage: it was large enough to serve a family of four! He tried to eat the whole thing but had to give up a little over halfway through. (He ate the rest for breakfast the next day in our hotel room.) I hade manicotti and it was cheese-a-licious. My only nitpick is that the sauce was a bit too thick--tasted like tomato paste. We made the mistake of ordering saganaki as an appetizer because my husband had never had it and I insisted he try it. When we told the owner as we were leaving that we certainly didn't need an appetizer with such generous servings, he shrugged and said something like, "But you can't pass up saganaki!"

Some things always survive his menu updates, like the dried eggplant. There would be riots if that ever left. If it's like the last update, you'll still see a lot of your favorites, plus some new things to try. Sure, some things will leave, but they'll likely come back around eventually. Plus, at least Short Pump isn't too far away. Could be that your favorites are available only an hour or so east of C-ville. It's always worth checking!

A Tale of Two Continentals? (Richmond)

I have been to the new Continental Westahmpton once...my husband goes often for lunch. I like it a lot for lunch. It's the same people, the Giavos, who have Stella's, Kitchen 64 and several other places in Richmond.

I only went to the original Phil's once and thought it was okay. Have not been to the new one.

Oregon Hill would be your best bet. Mojo's has great cheesesteaks and a huge menu. 821 cafe is a scenester spot but good and cheap. Fancier options and a longer walk (several blocks) would include Mama Zu-amazing Italian food but be prepared to wait and Pescados on China St.

Thanks. We ate at Todd Jurich's Bistro--Very good, but the fish was slightly overcooked. It was walking distance from the Marriott. Next night we had hamburgers at the restaurant in the Marriott. Those were excellent. It's sort of creepy walking around at night there. No one is around

I'm going to be in the Harper's Ferry area next week. I'm wondering if there's somewhere in the vicinity where I can find ramps -- farmers' markets, farm stands, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks!
